We've been shortlisted in the Pet & Animal Care Awards 2024!

The Pet Vet Barnsley has made the shortlist in the Pet & Animal Care Awards 2024 in the Business Awards UK! This is for the Most Positive Community Impact Award.

These are just some of the ways we're proud to support the local community in Barnsley:

Our NEW @ Home Vet Nurse Service

A first of its kind in the Barnsley area, our Veterinary Nurses have been hitting the road and vising our customers & their pets in their own homes. We’ve found this is ideal for members of the local community who for whatever reason may have difficulty bringing their pets into practice. Customers can expect the same gold-standard care in the comfort of their home environment, where our team are able to offer a wide selection of services & procedures. We’ve already received lots of positive feedback on this new service from local residents!

Supporting local charities

Our Barnsley team undertake a regular collection of donated food, toys, coats and bedding and distribute these to local animal rescue charities. Local charities we support include BARC (Barnsley Animal Rescue Charity), Willow Dog Rescue and our local branches of Cat’s Protection and RSPCA.

Pet bereavement counselling

We understand how distressing the loss of a much-loved pet can be to process. Our Barnsley Head Nurse Jacq is a trained bereavement counsellor, and she is able to provide bereaved pet parents with a free counselling session to support them at this difficult time. We can facilitate these sessions over the phone or face-to-face in a quiet, private area of our Barnsley practice.

Dog, cat AND rabbit-friendly clinic accreditations!

Our Barnsley team are delighted to have been awarded silver cat-friendly clinic status by the ISFM (International Society of Feline Medicine). More recently, we’ve also become an accredited silver-level rabbit-friendly practice by the Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund, AND a certified dog-friendly clinic, as assessed by Dog’s Trust and the British Veterinary Behaviour Association (BVBA).

To achieve these accreditations, we’ve implemented various improvements in our surgery so our local community of dog, cat and rabbit owners can bring their pets into practice, confident in the knowledge their needs have been fully considered.

Pet behaviour consultations

To support the local community of pet parents, we’ve recently introduced a pet behaviour service! All our Barnsley customers will be able to take full advantage of this new service, which includes a pre-consult questionnaire (so our team can fully understand the challenges before the customer comes in), a 1-hour consult with our trained pet behaviourist, a written report with an action plan and a follow-up phone call to check on the pet’s progress.

Fair value pricing

We understand the financial challenges created by the cost of living crisis. We’re proud to offer excellent value for money, with absolutely no compromise on the level of service or care our customers & their pets receive. In addition to our fair value, standard pricing, to support the over 60s in our community, we offer 10% discount every Wednesday and Thursday. Customers can use this discount against surgery costs, treatments, medication and products purchased in clinic.

Open Day fun!

Who could forget our Open Day? This went down an absolute storm and we had an excellent turnout from our local community. We hosted a raffle and organised a bake sale to raise money for BARC (Barnsley Animal Rescue Charity), offered free Nurse health checks, behind the scenes surgery tours and the opportunity to chat with members of our team.

Hosting interesting talks

Last October, our Barnsley team hosted an evening event for the local community, providing them with advice on how to prepare their pet and keep them calm ahead of Bonfire Night. We know this is something many of our customers worry about, particularly if their pet has previously shown signs of firework anxiety, so we organised this talk to provide them with advice on how to best manage Bonfire Night nerves and put their pets at ease. There will be more talks like this to come throughout 2024 on a range of topics tailored to our customers’ needs.

Inspiring the next generation

Our Barnsley colleagues have had some fantastic experiences going into our local primary school and speaking to the children about what it’s like to work in a veterinary surgery. The children even get involved by practicing their bandaging skills and pretending to scrub in for theatre!
