Student and Graduate Opportunities at The Pet Vet

We’re delighted to be attending the RVC Careers Fair in Hatfield on Wednesday 8th February 2023 to showcase the latest opportunities available for students and graduates across our practice group.

t The Pet Vet, we regularly facilitate placements for EMS students and encourage a ‘hands on’, active approach to learning. As described by the RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons), ‘EMS (Extra Mural Studies) form part of students’ overall clinical education. These placements are a vital part of the veterinary degree as they provide a unique opportunity for students to gain valuable experience and practice skills acquired during the veterinary programme, in a further range of ‘real workplace learning’ contexts.’

A true success story from a previous EMS placement is Dr Niall Hughes, Head Vet at The Pet Vet Rotherham, who joined The Pet Vet as an EMS student in 2014 and progressed in the practice through the RCVS graduate development programme.

Dr Niall Hughes said: “I chose The Pet Vet for my first position because I appreciated the benefits of clinical freedom which come from working for this independent practice. The Pet Vet made me feel part of the team from the start, with a structured path and action plan to build my expertise and advance my career. I currently have two ongoing certificates funded by The Pet Vet – one in small animal surgery and a second in medicine.”

We’re looking forward to meeting all the students and graduates who attend the RVC Careers Fair and talking to them about the benefits of being part of the largest, independent, family-owned practice group in the UK.
