Support Dogs – our charity of the year

Our colleagues fundraise for Support Dogs, often pushing themselves out of their comfort zones, to participate in activities such as skydiving, abseiling, endurance hiking, running, cycling and cold-water swimming. Our fantastic customers help us too, through donating towards our sponsored challenges, supporting our surgery open days, buying cakes at our bake sales, and opting to donate 10p as part of their card machine transactions. We’ve raised enough money to sponsor Roxy, our own Support Dogs puppy, and will watch her progress from a tiny bundle of energy to a fully-trained assistance dog, who will make a huge difference to her future owner’s life.

Support for local charities

Throughout the year, our surgeries support nominated local animal charities with discounted treatment pathways; and every December, our teams organise a pet food donation station in their receptions. Just before Christmas, the items are passed on to animal charities and rescue centres, local to each surgery. Our last Christmas food collection weighed in at a whopping 700kg of food – the equivalent weight of a polar bear or a camel!

Volunteering overseas

Every year, The Pet Vet funds one Vet or Nurse to work for 2 weeks as a volunteer at an overseas animal charity. Projects have included Street Dogs in Sri Lanka, Pacific Animal Shelter in Fiji and Floating Doctors in Panama. The charities we support rely on volunteers to help treat sick and injured animals, and support population control through neutering programmes.
