Career-launching opportunities for ambitious students & graduates

Ready to supercharge your veterinary career? Exciting opportunities await for the students & graduates who come to work with us. Whatever your ambitions are, we’re 100% behind you, providing all the experience & learning opportunities you need to achieve your goals and build your dream career.

EMS students

We love welcoming EMS students into our practices and provide a structured plan to help increase your knowledge and confidence, making sure you get the very best out of your placement. We like our EMS students to be as hands-on as possible as we believe this gives you the best possible learning experience.

We’re delighted to say many of our EMS students stay on with us beyond their placement and grow their careers with us. This includes Dr Ashleigh Howells MRCVS, who undertook an EMS placement with us as part of her studies. Ashleigh was identified as emerging talent during her placement and offered sponsorship for her final years of study. Ashleigh joined us permanently after graduating in 2023.

If you'd like to join us on an EMS placement, please email us at recruitment@thepetvet.co.uk. We’d love to hear from you!

RCVS graduate development programme

We’re registered with the RCVS graduate development programme. Every graduate that joins us has a dedicated mentor on hand to provide practical and emotional support and guidance, helping to guide you through your first two years of post-graduate practice.

Here’s what can you expect when you join us as a graduate:

  • High-quality, workplace-based development – all our graduates receive a consistent level of support and an experience tailored to their specific capabilities, aligned with their clinical ambitions.
  • Coaching – once the formality of the RCVS graduate development programme has been completed, you’ll continue to receive coaching throughout your second year with us. We’ll collaboratively agree a personal development plan that supports you in mastering the basics and helping to shape particular clinical interests.
  • Setting you up for the right post-graduate qualifications – we’ll look at this from year 3 onwards based on the clinical interests you’ve expressed as part of your PDP.

Meet your GDP Lead – Dr Laura Copley

“I graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2021 and have since completed my certificate in Diagnostic Imaging. Currently, I am working towards becoming an Advanced Practitioner.

“In my role as the Graduate Lead, my goal is to support our graduates, helping them enjoy their employment as veterinarians. Through regular one-on-one meetings, group discussions, and social activities, I aim to collaborate with the graduates to create an open and supportive learning environment where they can thrive.”

Dr Niall Hughes – our Head Vet who came to us through EMS and completed the GDP

Dr Niall Hughes said: “The Pet Vet made me feel part of the team from the start, with a structured path and action plan to build my expertise and advance my career. I currently have two ongoing certificates funded by The Pet Vet – one in small animal surgery and a second in medicine.”

If you'd like to join us in a graduate role, please email us at recruitment@thepetvet.co.uk. We’d love to hear from you and have a chat about any of the opportunities below!
